Any interior design lover sees their home as a blank canvas waiting to be decorated. Whether you own a home or only rent may affect your abilities to apply certain interior trends, and landlords may be a bit restrictive. Luckily, there are some small renovation tips that you can utilize to give your home an uplift. So read on for some of the renovation trends of 2018 and pick ones that will suit your situation best.
Colors of the Earth
One of the best ways to decorate your home on a budget is by implementing the use of color. You might be lucky enough to have a landlord who allows you to repaint the walls. If not, there are other ways to change the walls colors temporarily. After you choose your method, the next step is to pick the right colors for your space. Latest trends say you can pick a variety of earthy colors. Shades of gray, beige, egg white, green and blue are hot right now, and you can use lighter shades for the walls of your home. However, if you wish to emphasize certain features of your home and give it some spirit, try using a bold color – ultraviolet is super trendy right now. Take inspiration from nature and mimic certain sceneries if you wish. As long as you feel like you’re at home and the colors soothe you, you are limited by nothing but your imagination.
Mixing Designs
There aren’t many rules this year when it comes to the overall design. This means you can mix designs as much as you like! However, keep in mind that you don’t want your home to look like a freak show. Opt for two opposite yet subtle interior designs to combine. A great combination would be Scandinavian mixed with Industrial design, for example.
Scandinavian design is simple, elegant and exudes warmth. It incorporates wooden elements and natural textures. Industrial design describes more of a modern loft look and has evolved from old factories and industrial spaces and incorporates the use of exposed ducts and pipes. Mixing these two styles is an example of utilizing two different designs that are both subtle enough to combine well, yet neutral enough to be complementary.
Another great idea is updating your doors. For example, install barn doors between the living room and the kitchen, to give your home a whole new feel. The metal bar that holds the sliding doors and the wooden door itself make a great example of Scandinavian and Industrial designs working together, striking the perfect balance in your interior design.
Matte finishes
The times of using shiny materials all over the house are over. It is time to replace them with matte finishes. Why is that you ask? Well for one, matte finishing is more durable and can easily hide pesky marks and dirt on the walls, ceilings and other surfaces that get damaged easily. However, you don’t have to stop there. This year, you can make your interior more modern and sleek by replacing the old taps and sinks with brand new black ones; of course, if your landlord agrees.
Creative Lighting
Since minimalist design is the number one trend, it is possible that your rental or home already incorporates this look. So, to complement it, you will need some modern lighting fixtures. It goes without saying that any lighting fixtures you introduce need to be functional and serve their purpose. But your chosen fixtures can also make a statement even when not in use. So, browse through stores to find fixtures with metallic or brass finishing, (and don’t forget about matte finishes!) to give your minimalist design a little boost and introduce some character. Such materials are easy to maintain, and you won’t have any trouble keeping everything clean and in order.
Decorating with Homeware
Many people tend to hide their dishes, blankets, and pillows. However, there is nothing to be ashamed of; rather, you should embrace the beauty of your homeware and proudly display it as part of your décor. 2018 is all about being proud and bold, so make sure to expose your beautiful dinnerware, vases, throw pillows and blankets; especially if they are beautiful and colorful. Also, don’t be afraid to mix the dinnerware and other dishes in order to create a unique look. Additionally, you can look for some unusual and outstanding bowls for your fruit, keys and other knick-knacks which will make a great storage space while giving character to décor. The more artistic the piece looks, the better it will fit into your fresh, new interior design, making a rental feel like your own home, or your home feel even warmer.
