Another month, another list of deadly recalled consumer products. Effective Coverage brings you this list on a monthly basis to help ensure your safety and that of your family. If you own a recalled product, stop using it immediately and follow the instructions to return it to the store or the manufacturer. That being said, some products should be replaced with different models immediately so that you don’t go without while waiting on the recall process.
Smoke Detectors Should Detect Smoke. This Brand Doesn’t!

Smoke Detectors Should Detect Smoke.
Kidde model i12O1Os hard-wired smoke detectors should immediately be replaced. After a power outage, they may fail to detect smoke and/or carbon monoxide. This of course, creates an incredibly dangerous situation because you could be unaware of a fire or carbon monoxide problem. Remember that in certain situations, both fire and CO can kill without ever waking a person up, so this is especially crucial to have fixed. Call (844)553-9011 for a replacement. Note that this applies to hard-wired versions only, not battery-operated versions. Make sure to use a battery operated smoke detector in this product’s place until it is repaired or replaced!
Another Smoke Non-Detector…
Siemens has recalled model SBGA-34 Audible Base because it may not sound the alarm. The only thing worse than a smoke detector that doesn’t detect smoke is one that detects smoke, and doesn’t warn you! This model was sold through distributors and installers, not direct to consumers, and the distributor will provide a free inspection. Call (800)516-9964 for instructions. Make sure to use a battery operated smoke detector in this product’s place until it is repaired or replaced!
Gas Fireplace Causes Fire…
Hearth & Home Technologies recalled gas fireplaces, gas stoves, gas fireplace inserts, and gas log sets because the gas valve in the unit can leak and cause fire or explosion. Immediately contact (800)883-6690 to see if your unit is one of the roughly 20,000 affected. If so, cease using it immediately, shut off the gas using a valve further up the pipeline, and seek a professional installer for advice if necessary. Remember, natural gas isn’t just a fire and explosion hazard. If you’re asleep, breathing in toxic gas can lead to death by asphyxia, so take this one very seriously.
Humidifiers Should Not Explode Into Flames…
Great Innovations and QVC have recalled the “Ultrasonic Clean Mist Humidifier” because water can enter the base, short out the circuit board and cause sparking, arcing, fire, possible electrocution, and risk of death. If you have one of these, call (844)600-1370 for instructions and stop using it immediately. At least 100 incidents of smoke and/or fire have been reported to the CPSC.
If you own any of these products, follow the contact instructions and make sure to stop using them immediately. Not all models or serial numbers may be affected, so have that information available when you call.
