Avalon Renters Insurance
The Avalon at Edgewater sprung from the ashes of the apartments at Avalon River Mews which burned to the ground back in 2000. Now, in a shocking twist, Avalon at Edgewater has itself gone up in flames. It’s unknown how many of the residents had Avalon renters insurance, but we would expect that those renting an apartment built on the site of a previous fire would strongly consider a New Jersey renters insurance policy.
The cause of the Avalon at Edgewater fire is as yet undetermined, though we eagerly await the official reports on the same. NJ.com will detail the Avalon at Edgewater fire press conference. Described as “spacious” and containing “beautiful gas fireplaces” in the “spacious one- , two-, and three-bedroom floor plans,”Avalon at Edgewater offered a lovely home to many people.
Over a thousand of those people are now searching for new homes after the Avalon at Edgewater fire. Avalon renters insurance would have offered loss of use coverage, allowing those people to stay in hotels instead of with friends or at the shelter set up in a local school. They also would have had coverage for their personal property with Avalon renters insurance. As it stands, many of those people aren’t sure how they’ll replace everything they owned. Even people with significant disposable income can find it difficult to purchase an entire life’s worth of property all at once. How much would it cost you to replace everything at retail? Fifteen thousand dollars? Fifty thousand dollars? Renters insurance at an Avalon community can be be customized to your specific needs and coverage requirements.
Interestingly enough, in reviewing the site the day after the Avalon fire, Avalon at Edgewater notes that they partner with Cort furniture to make life easier for new residents. That notation is easy to see. What they don’t make a mention of is Avalon renters insurance. That’s ironic, because Cort Furniture needs to be listed as an additional insured on renters insurance so the two services would seem to be a logical combination on the site.
If Avalon renters insurance is missing from the website they used to promote the apartments, how many of the units was it missing from? We don’t have exact numbers yet, but we do know that only forty-four percent of Americans have renters insurance, and the numbers do not increase significantly at higher socioeconomic levels, That means the residents of this property are no more likely to have had Avalon at Edgewater renters insurance than residents of any other property.
So many lives were torn apart by this fire that schools were closed the next day and a state of emergency was declared by the mayor. John Sterling, the New York Yankees announcer who lived at Avalon at Edgewater told the NY Daily News that he “fears he’s lost everything.” That is, unfortunately, a safe assumption to make considering the size of the fire.
At this time, it appears that there are no injuries as a result of the blaze, which is lucky. One witness, according to the Daily News, reported that the fire took no more than twelve minutes to full engulf all three of the wood frame buildings that comprise the complex. That left very little time for anyone to get out, and the lack of injuries is an unexpected piece of good news.
While there is no solid information yet, reports of plumbers working in a wall near where the fire started are being investigated. Plumbing torches start apartment fires with some frequency.
