NJ Renters Insurance: Neglince And Gas Explosions
Why do I need NJ renters insurance? Nothing ever happens, and besides, I live responsibly. I won’t do anything that would endanger my property or anyone else’s!
We’ve heard that question (and the excuses and reasons not to be covered) thousands of times over the years. The reasons not to have renters insurance in New Jersey change from time to time, but always the same logical fallacy appears, time and time again, each time differently cloaked in obfuscation but no less incorrect. The logical fallacy is this:
I live responsibly, so I don’t need renters insurance.
Where is the fallacy? You don’t buy renters insurance because you’re irresponsible. You buy renters insurance because you have nutty, negligent, noncompliant neighbors. Read on for an explosive example…
It started out like any other Tuesday in Stafford Township, NJ. A February chill in the air, people going about their business, and a home being renovated next door, just like any other home in any other city. But something was different about this particular Tuesday. A smell hung in the air, nearly tangible. Neighbors took a whiff, and then shook their heads, not quite able to place the invader. The smell began to waft into other homes on the block, and finally someone what terror that smell could bring.
Residents barely had time to recognize the smell of a natural gas leak and to run with their loved ones. It seemed to be coming from the unoccupied house under renovation by the negligent neighbor in question, but no one was sure until the fire chief showed up. When he was fifty feet from the empty home, the ground quaked like Candlestick Park, and bits of building materials flew like they were shot from a cannon, knocking him and several other people down.
Six firefighters and two EMTs were at risk of concussion. Seven workers from the gas company were injured. One nearby observer described the aftermath as a war zone. The cause has not yet been determined, but given that the home was under renovation it’s quite likely that work was being performed negligently, allowing gas to escape and send the neighborhood up in a ball of fire. A gas main break is the other option, and the more frightening one considering several similar incidents in New Jersey in recent years. Nearby homes were severely damaged, even homes farther down the block sustained some damage. NJ renters insurance would protect all these residents from the fire, explosion, smoke, and other effects of this gas explosion in New Jersey,
Why do you need renters insurance in New Jersey? Because you have no idea what your negligent neighbors are doing behind closed doors. Whether they’re lighting candles while intoxicated or cutting corners doing renovations, the actions of your neighbors could well send you and your possessions flying.
