We’re 100% Sure We Know What This Guy Won’t Be Talking About At The Debate In Boulder!
Tonight is the Republican debate in Boulder, CO. What is the one thing Republicans will refuse to talk about in Boulder? What is the one issue that politicians refuse to touch, whether they’re candidates or already in office? You’ll be shocked when you realize that it’s an issue that impacts the majority of Americans, and an issue that would cost taxpayers not a single penny to fix! One stroke of a pen could solve the problem, but no one will take action!
Millions of hard-working American families are just a hair’s breadth away from losing everything they’ve worked so hard for. The American Dream is to be self-sufficient, to have what you need, and to be able to give a little bit back to the community that’s supported you. That dream is crushed for families all across America every single day, and it’s the one thing that we can basically guarantee will not come up during the Republican debate tonight.
We anticipate that we’ll hear the words “personal responsibility” about a hundred times over the course of two hours tonight. We anticipate that we’ll hear some other contentious phrases, as well. But the one thing we won’t hear…
The One Thing Republicans Will Refuse To Talk About In Boulder
The vast majority of American families have no emergency fund, or none to speak of. A hundred bucks does not an emergency fund make. So what happens when these families are victims of one of the 105,800 apartment fires that happen every year (NFPA)? What happens when these families lose the things they’ve worked so hard for to one of the two million home burglaries that happen every year according to UCR statistics?
Those families are forced to lean on whatever resources they can find. They’re forced to lean on the Red Cross after a fire, or local organizations, or the help of the community. Their self-sufficiency is taken from them, and their dreams are crushed by fire, theft, even by something as simple and everyday as a broken pipe. They’ve lost everything, and they have no way to recover.
If you want to drive a car, you’re required to have auto insurance. It is what it is – the few states that don’t per se require auto insurance require you to have financial responsibility for an accident you cause. You’re required to insure your health, in part so that the government doesn’t have to pay for your care – that goes with the small government platform they will no doubt be promoting this evening at the debate in Boulder.
Should there be a similar requirement that renters insure their personal liability? Insuring personal property is obviously a choice, but most people would choose to do so if they already needed to buy liability insurance. The only requirement currently in place is in the leases used by most property management companies, but they often are not enforced. You’ll hear plenty of discussion about personal responsibility tonight, but you won’t hear a word about how renters insurance helps people to maintain that personal responsibility.
To be clear, we’re not actually suggesting that a candidate should propose a federal mandate requiring renters insurance. That would be patently ridiculous, and probably not Constitutional. The point we’re making is that only forty-four percent of American renters have renters insurance, and no one is talking about the problem.
If you rent, it’s not your fire that should concern you – it’s your neighbor’s fire spreading to your apartment when you least expect it that should concern you. You should be concerned about your child riding their bike and running into someone and injuring them, and the costs of that loss. You should be concerned about someone breaking into your apartment and stealing the fruits of your hard work. You can take personal responsibility in an affordable way for just a few dollars a month.
